Course Description

Seismic Acquisition and Processing are closely intertwined with decisions made during acquisition directly impacting the ability (or inability) to process the data to the level required for advanced interpretation. In this hands on course, we will be focusing on the basics of processing and how choices made during seismic acquisition affect processing. We will cover basic seismic acquisition parameter evaluation, field implementation, and data delivery requirements as well as work through seismic data processing examples focused on the basics of geometry, refraction, deconvolution,  velocities, reflection statics, stacking, and migration. Course participants will utilize seismic acquisition and processing software to review data, complete exercises, learn which critical questions to ask, and what data QC plots to request when evaluating both seismic acquisition and processing parameters for seismic programs.

This course is designed for those who are required to make decisions on seismic acquisition and processing parameters. Upon completion of the course, one should be able to make informed decisions on seismic acquisition and processing parameters.

Andrea Crook, P.Geoph., is the President of OptiSeis Solutions Ltd., which she co-founded in 2011. The company is focused on developing innovative acquisition solutions for acquiring high resolution seismic data and also provides geophysical acquisition software. As President, she currently oversees both seismic acquisition design projects and software development. Andrea’s previous experience includes seismic processing and geophysical operations at Shell Canada, where she worked on many high-resolution and experimental seismic acquisition projects, and geophysical consulting on both mining and oil & gas seismic programs at Boyd PetroSearch. In addition to designing seismic acquisition programs and overseeing software development, Andrea also teaches seismic acquisition courses for the SEG, the CSEG Doodletrain, and privately upon request.

Stephanie Ross began her processing career at Gulf Canada Resources, in the days of mainframe computers and 80 column card input. Over the years she worked at Western Geophysical, Geco-Prakla, CGG, Arcis and Edge Technologies. She has processed land data from all over the world, with marine data occasionally thrown in for good measure, and ultimately specialized in high-resolution processing, primarily in the WCSB, as well as front-end processing and refraction. Over Stephanie’s career, she has designed and implemented many successful processing flows and trained many junior processors in the fine art of seismic processing. As a result of this long experience she is now happily affiliated with OptiSeis Solutions, assisting with and providing processing and training for staff and clients. Stephanie recently wrote and presented a hands-on processing course designed for interpreters.
