John L.J. Duhault, P.Geoph.
Mr. Duhault is a “Hunter Finder Mentor” Geoscientist who graduated in 1979 and has over 38 years of industry experience including over 48,000 hours of interpretation experience in Canada and overseas. He has presented the value of integrated geophysics using case histories in Canada, the US and New Zealand. He has worked for, consulted to, and found oil and gas for integrated senior and intermediate producers and numerous junior independents. He founded and led two private juniors and is the Principal Consultant for Starbird Enterprises specializing in conventional exploration and resource play seismic interpretation including completion geophysics assessments. Mr. Duhault is currently President of the CSEG.

This course is designed to provide the attendees with a broad spectrum of integrated geophysical solutions to oil and gas industry problems. The case histories, shown throughout the course illustrate the value of integrating geophysics to solve a technical / business problem that rely heavily on the geological and engineering data provided.

The course begins with a brief discussion on seismic properties, the reliability and relevance of geophysical data and the role geophysicists play in working with their project teams in creating an efficient and effective business case for the use of geophysical data. The importance of gathering good quality additional data such as logs, petrophysical analysis, reservoir pressure, fracture orientation, reservoir facies and completion strategies will be emphasized throughout the day.

The Case studies are covered in four sections:

  1. Conventional Geophysics
    •  Light Oil, Heavy Oil, Offshore Development
  2. Unconventional Geophysics
    • Oil sands, Montney,
  3. Completion Geophysics
    • Microseismic, Tilt, DTS, DAS
  4. Environmental and Infrastructure
    • HEM, HRAM, Resistivity, etc.

You will learn from this course:

  1. That team dynamics matter
  2.  Identify geo-hazard predictions
  3. Provide well bore trajectory planning: “where to drill and where not to drill”
  4. Predict maximum stress field directions and fracture intensity
  5. Identify different reservoir facies, and estimate reservoir production
  6. Four microseismic characteristics that will help your completion strategies
  7. A Decision Tree approach to Induced Seismicity Monitoring
  8. How HEM and Resistivity studies can identify sources of gravel for your infrastructure needs
  9. The value of implementing DTS and DAS systems in your oil and gas project

All of this will help you maximize success using integrated geophysical applications.
