Planned Giving

The mission of the CSEG Foundation is to encourage and support scientific, educational and charitable activities that benefit geophysicists through the solicitation of contributions aimed at promoting the development of geophysical knowledge, education and public awareness.

Your donation or legacy will help us to achieve our aims.

Message from the Chair

As Chair of the Board of Directors of CSEG Foundation, along with the support of my fellow Board members and volunteers, it is my intent and privilege to continue the efforts of our predecessors in developing the Foundation as the charitable arm of the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Our over-arching goal is to ensure that we serve the profession of Geophysics – both internal to our Society and externally to the public - by encouraging and supporting scientific, educational and charitable activities that benefit geophysicists through the solicitation of contributions aimed at promoting the development of geophysical knowledge, education and public awareness.

I am proud to introduce our Planned Giving program as a significant leap forward in our efforts to ensure that the legacy of the Foundation continues on. I am also proud of the Planned Giving Committees.

As a Foundation, our short-term aim is to financially underwrite our annual programs with the generous support of our members and our corporate partners. In the long-term, we want to continue to build our endowment reserve to create a secure and conservatively-managed financial base that will eventually provide the annuity income to fully fund our annual programs. It is imperative that our investments grow and exceed benchmark returns-on-investment for similar-sized endowment funds while continuing to raise funds through innovative programs like Planned Giving.

By conducting ourselves as worthy stewards of the funds entrusted to the Foundation, the Board has a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard the sustainability of the Foundation and its important work. By excelling as trustees of these funds, we continue to attract patrons who want to give back to their profession by contributing to the building of the Foundation.

We honour those long-serving members of the Society by ensuring that the reputation and integrity of their Foundation lives on. Looking forward, the Board and I will continue to focus of our effort into “Securing the Future of Geophysics in Canada”.

Larry Herd,
Chair of the CSEG Foundation Board of Directors, 2014 - 2018
