PAMELA BUCHER
SENIOR GEOPHYSICIST, P.GEO, CSEG SYMPOSIUM CHAIR
PAMELA.BUCHER@CENOVUS.COM
As the Chair of this year’s CSEG Symposium I wanted to thank everyone and express my sincere gratitude to the honouree, speakers, members of the organizing committee and attendees! I’m delighted to share that the event, which took place on April 18th at the Hudson Lofts, brought together over one hundred and thirty-five enthusiastic geophysicists. The Symposium proved again to be a platform of knowledge sharing, networking and meaningful technical discussion. With a lineup of technical talks, the conference touched on all aspects of geophysics, from acquisition to processing, interpretation to cost analysis. The talks covered a broad range of technical geophysics, various case studies from oil sands producers, new sustainable applications of geophysics in the CCUS space and even other industries like potash mining.
Firstly, I would like to express my appreciation to this year’s honouree, Andrea Crook, founder and CEO of OptiSeis Solutions. Her extensive experience in seismic processing and geophysical operations allowed the committee to curate a day featuring eight technical talks.
Secondly, I would like to thank all eight speakers who engaged the audience and shared their technical knowledge; Mauricio Sacchi (From Spitz’s FX interpolation to Compressive Sensing – A historical outlook on seismic reconstruction methods, UofA), Stephen Harvey (Case Study: Quest Seismicity Monitoring Technology Trials, Shell Canada Ltd.), Bill Goodway (Seismic AVO and Inversion as a Tool to Assess the Impact of Cost-Efficient Environmentally Responsible Land 3D Survey Designs on AVO Amplitude Fidelity, Qeye), Marie Macquet (Multi-Disciplinary Evidence of Upward Migration at the CMC Newell County Facility, CMC), Warren Cookson (The Cost of Doing Business, Cenovus Energy), Shannon Hiebert (Closing the Gap on Seismic Offsets, Suncor), Greg Cameron (Machine Learning to Augment PSDM Velocity Model Building, TBI) and Neda Boroumand (Geophysics Applied to Potash Mining, Mirgem Co).
Lastly, I would like to thank the event sponsors; Absolute Imaging, APEGA, AspenTech, Cenovus Energy, Earth Signal Processing Ltd., Echo Seismic Ltd., Geomodeling, Geo-X, Ikon Science, Key Seismic, LXL Consulting Ltd., OptiSeis, Pulse, Qeye, RPS, SEI Seismic Exchange, SeisWare, Sigma, Schlumberger and Thrust Belt Imaging. Without your generous contributions events like this would not take place.
To everyone who made this conference an enriching and memorable event, I’m immensely grateful for your presence, contributions, and dedication to furthering geophysical knowledge and fostering meaningful connections. Your participation has undoubtedly propelled the success of this Symposium and I look forward to future gatherings where we can continue to explore and celebrate geophysics and innovation.
Sincerely, Pamela Bucher, CSEG Symposium Chair
